CANADA-NOVA SCOTIA OFFSHORE PETROLEUM BOARD ISSUES CALL FOR BIDS

(Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada) The Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board (CNSOPB) has issued Call for Bids NS14-1. This Call consists of four (4) parcels on the Scotian Slope in water depths between 100 m and 4,100 m. Bids must be received by October 30, 2014 before 4:00 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time.

“The parcels included in the NS14-1 Call for Bids have potential for both oil and gas and have a range of Cretaceous and Jurassic drilling targets,” says Stuart Pinks, CNSOPB CEO. “The Tantallon M-41 well was drilled in the area in 1986.  It is located in the landward portion of Parcel 1, and tested a large geological structure found on the present day upper slope in 1,540m of water.”

Parcels 1 and 2 in the western Call area extend from the outermost shelf to the lower slope.  Parcel 3 in the eastern Call area extends from the outermost shelf to the middle slope and Parcel 4 covers the middle to lower slope. Parcels 3 and 4 border the Newfoundland and Labrador provincial boundary and are adjacent to several active Exploration Licences managed by the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board.

The CNSOPB has conducted a comprehensive geoscientific assessment of the Parcels, as well as a Strategic Environmental Assessment of the greater area. Supportive information, as well as regulatory information, can be found on the CNSOPB website at www.cnsopb.ns.ca.

“The successful bidder(s) will be awarded an Exploration Licence subject to federal and provincial Ministerial approval,” said Mr. Pinks.

The CNSOPB provides the opportunity for the public to submit written comments on the Call for Bids parcel areas. Written submissions must be received by July 4th, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time. Such submissions will be posted on www.callforbids.ca and will be considered by the CNSOPB before an Exploration Licence is issued. Please refer to www.callforbids.ca for information on how to submit written comments.

The Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board is the independent joint agency of the Governments of Canada and Nova Scotia responsible for the regulation of petroleum activities and resources offshore Nova Scotia.
