Update #5: Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board’s Response to COVID-19

18/09/2020

Business Continuity

On August 4, 2020, we launched a pilot program to return to our offices in Halifax and Dartmouth. To safely return to our workplace, we developed a plan, created new health and safety protocols and provided training to all staff. Following several weeks of testing our new COVID-19 health and safety measures, the majority of staff have now returned to our offices part-time to accommodate physical distancing and capacity reductions, while continuing to work the remainder of time remotely.

We are also welcoming back external visitors who wish to view samples and data at our Geoscience Research Centre in Dartmouth. All external visitors must request an appointment to view samples or data on-site. When visiting our workplace, guests must wear a mask, maintain physical distancing, and follow our COVID-19 protocols.

We will continue to adhere to the guidelines and directives issued by the Chief Medical Officer of Health and assess our return to office program.

We would like to thank our Information Services department who have made our transition to remote work and return to our offices run smoothly and safely.

Extension for Offshore Training and Medicals

Trainees who required refresher training or individuals needing offshore medicals, but could not obtain them due to COVID-19, have been granted an extension until October 31, 2020. For additional information, please click here.

Status of Offshore Operations

Decommissioning and abandonment activities continue in the Canada-Nova Scotia offshore area and are nearing completion.

On March 25, 2020, our Chief Safety Officer issued an Order Respecting Essential Employees. This Order supports the health measures put in place by the Nova Scotia Chief Medical Officer of Health and remains in effect.
