Board of Directors Spotlight: Jim MacDonald

15/04/2021

The Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board (CNSOPB) is governed by an independent Board of Directors, which is comprised of provincial and federal appointees and a Board Chair. The Board sets the CNSOPB’s policies and programs through strategic, ethical and transparent lenses in the stewardship and regulation of offshore petroleum resources.

The CNSOPB welcomed Jim MacDonald as a Director in July 2020. Jim is a provincially appointed Director and brings decades of offshore experience to the table.

After completing his Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Engineering at Dalhousie University, Jim spent his early career with Amoco Canada Petroleum Company, working in Alberta, British Columbia, the Yukon and the Northwest Territories.  Jim also spent several years working at Amoco’s research centre in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1990, he returned to his native Nova Scotia to join Nova Scotia Resources Limited, where he took on progressively senior roles and eventually served as the General Manager.

In 2002, Jim joined Pengrowth Energy Corporation, where he participated in corporate acquisitions and developments. He served on Pengrowth’s leadership team and retired in 2017.

Jim participated in the development of the Cohasset Panuke Project and the Sable Offshore Energy Project. His direct experience working in the Canada-Nova Scotia offshore area greatly benefits the Board’s expertise.

“I’m very pleased to join the CNSOPB’s Board of Directors and to share my experience and expertise with my colleagues in support of the CNSOPB’s mandate”, says Jim.

We thank Jim for his contribution to our Board. For more information on Jim, read his Board biography.
