Cost Recovery

Pursuant to the Energy Safety and Security Act (2016) and the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Cost Recovery Regulations, the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board (CNSOPB) is responsible for recovering the costs associated with regulating offshore oil and gas activity from applicants and operators on behalf of both governments.

The CNSOPB and the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) have jointly developed Cost Recovery Guidelines, which can be found here. As described in these Guidelines, on an annual basis, the CNSOPB is required to post a schedule of fees.  The schedules of fees are found below and will be updated annually upon confirmation of the CNSOPB’s budget for the fiscal year by both governments.   The CNSOPB’s fiscal year runs from April 1st-March 31st.

Effective August 11, 2017, the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board Cost Recovery Fees Schedule for the 2017-2018 Fiscal Year are as follows:  Please note that there may be a change to these fees should the CNSOPB’s 2017-2018 approved budget amount change.

All fees are in Canadian dollars.
