Environmental Studies Research Fund

The Board is a member of the Environmental Studies Research Fund (ESRF) management board, which includes representatives from government, regulators, industry and the public. Research funding comes from levies paid by oil and gas companies who are operating facilities or wish to conduct exploration and development programs. The purpose of the ESRF is to finance environmental and social studies pertaining to the manner in which and to the terms and conditions under which petroleum exploration, development, and production activities on frontier lands should be conducted

Offshore Environmental Research Association

The Board participates on several of the advisory committees of the Offshore Environmental Research Association (OEER). The OEER is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to fostering offshore energy and environmental research and development. The objective of OEER is to build research capacity in Nova Scotia and to assess the potential impacts of: petroleum exploration, development and production and renewable energy technologies (ocean currents, wind, tides and waves) on the marine environment.

Program of Energy Research and Development

The Board participates on a number of advisory committees for the Program of Energy Research and Development (PERD). This is a federal, interdepartmental program operated by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) that funds research and development designed to ensure a sustainable energy future for Canada in the best interests of both our economy and our environment. It directly supports energy R&D conducted in Canada by the federal and provincial governments, and is concerned with all aspects of energy supply and use.

International Committee on Regulatory Research and Development

The International Committee on Regulatory Research and Development (ICRARD) is focused on transferring knowledge in the area of health, safety and environment in the petroleum sector. The ICRARD website provides a global overview of research and development projects in the fields of health, safety and the environment (HSE) with respect to petroleum activities. Canada is a member of this committee and contributes to the efforts of maintaining this web page current.
