The CNSOPB has published three key Resource Assessments:
Nova Scotia Deepwater Post-Drill Analysis 1982-2004 (2007)Summary: Between 2001 and 2004, 6 deep water wells were drilled. A working petroleum system was discovered with 27 m of gas sands in the 1st well, but very little sand was penetrated in subsequent wells. These drilling results were used to update the 2002 deep water study with the following results for undiscovered, recoverable, deep water resources. Authors: Kidston, A.G., Smith, B., Brown, D.E., Makrides, C. and Altheim, B: Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
| 90% Confidence | Mean | 10% Confidence | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Undiscovered Gas | 2.2 tcf | 11.6 tcf | 23.1 tcf |
| Undiscovered Oil | 0.2 billion barrels | 1.3 billion barrels | 2.8 billion barrels |
Summary: The discovery of Deep Panuke in 1998 validated the Jurassic Carbonate Bank as a commercial play in Nova Scotia's offshore. This discovery was on the outer edge of this bank but potential exists for plays on the inner bank as well as on the foreslope. In 2004 the CNSOPB assessed the potential of this play. The limited area of the proven narrow bank edge and high risk associated with the untested plays resulted in the modest estimates that are shown below for recoverable gas. Authors: Kidston, A.G., Brown, D.E., Smith B.M. and Altheim, B. Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
| 90% Confidence | Mean | 10% Confidence | |

| Undiscovered Gas | 0.5 tcf | 1.8 tcf | 3.4 tcf |
| Undiscovered Oil | 0.7 tcf |
Summary: While the first modern deep water well was being drilled at Annapolis, the CNSOPB was conducting a resource assessment on the 80,000 km2 deep water region. At this time only 3 wells had penetrated this entire area. Mapping 30,000 km of 2D regional seismic and studying tectonically similar basins around the world resulted in the following estimates for undiscovered, recoverable, deep water resources. Authors: Kidston, A.G., Brown, D.E., Smith B.M. and Altheim, B.: Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
| 90% Confidence | Mean | 10% Confidence | |

| Undiscovered Gas | 4.6 tcf | 15.2 tcf | 27.7 tcf |
| Undiscovered Oil | 0.4 billion barrels | 1.7 billion barrels | 3.2 billion barrels |
